Biography

In 2021 I initiated the Performance collective ‘Quite Batwhich started during our academic studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. There was no ‘Performance’ stream and a group of us had valued  investigating, learning and exploring what performance could be. We developed an intuative practise over the past 2 years, involving weekly meet ups to invent and improvise with movement. Every so often we invite Dancers, Theatre directors and Actors to come and run a workshop with us, and each year we organise 1 - 2 live performances with the general public.
Our performances are investigations of what performance can be. We have established a language between each other and a method of improvising. We choose purposefully to play with the notion of ‘Bad acting’, since we are ‘Not actors’ , which is why sometimes we don’t act at all. We play with the extremes of being ‘over the top’ and ‘underwhelming’ simultaneously.

Instinctual choices, Awkward uncertainties, and unscripted moments are important to us. During each show we always do our own lighting, sound, costumes, scenography, films, productions, posters and Merchandise.

A Reject Festival (2023 - Present)

Laura Eager and Jan Wienowiecki

Biography

A Reject Festival was made to program only the failed applications. To inspire, connect, encourage and give opportunity for everyone who wants to make. We hope for our audience to be understood and understanding of what is presented to them
We want to trust the ambition of the maker, giving them the possibility to try, learn and make mistakes. There must be a space without the pressure to exceed, that bridges the gap between the ideal concepts of the maker, and the expectation of the organisation.

Edition I

The first edition of A Reject Festival took place in 2023, at the bar De Nieuwe Anita in Amsterdam. At this edition we hosted 22 makers, with a program built from 10 performances of 2-3 minutes, comedy at the bar, Opera Karaoke, 3 performances of 30 minutes, fine arts, installations and soundscapes in the toilet.

After a successful event with over 150 people attending, we are happy to continue with a new edition in 2024, this time taking place in and around Theatre Vrijburcht in Amsterdam IJburg
